October 2011 - Morrow duo in Beautiful Guatemala, Central America
It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord. And we are glad to greet you once more as a co-laborer with the Lord Jesus in this beautiful place of ‘eternal
spring’. The Lord continues to use us both in the work of preaching and teaching the Word of God. I hesitate to use the words ‘soul winning’ for the scriptures
say that “we shall be witnesses”. Thank the good Lord that it is His word that does the work while we do our part by giving testimony of His Grace
.
From the addendum to our last prayer letter you know that Tito Hoil is now Brother Tito. I am pleased to tell you that Tito preached for us this month and his
first message was “taking up his cross”. What better message from the lips of a new Christian than to publicly testify that he is taking up his cross and following
the Lord. They were not idle words. Tito is following the Lord and we praise the Lord for his great mercy to us all in giving us Tito to help in this work.
Don Marcos Perez continues to grow in the Lord and is preaching every Sunday night and on some Wednesday nights. He asked for more responsibility in the
church and he is doing what is asked of him.
Juan Carlos is seeing some trials in his life and is learning from them. If it doesn’t kill him first, he will be a good servant of the Lord!!! Juan Carlos’ wife Marlyn
is one of the most intent listeners. She is seeing the Lord do things and is left amazed each time at the nearness of the Lord. She is a blessing. We have been
averaging around 40 people each service. Visitors continue to drop in and some former listeners are starting to return to hear more. Little by little they are
learning.
Bro. Richard Ciarrocca has started a car fund for us. He is sending a letter to his supporters and ours also. Please read his letter and respond as the Lord leads.
Barb’s mom is 85 years old and her health is declining. We have never spent much time with her over the years. The distance between Virginia and Texas has
always been too great to travel much. Barb wants to spend a couple weeks with her so we will be flying to San Antonio, Texas next Thursday the 3rd of
November and return to Dolores on the 19th.
We will have a table full of visitors for Thanksgiving. Barb is planning that meal now.
As some of you know, we will complete 8 years here in Guatemala on the 1st of December. We have never taken a full furlough at any time in those eight
years. The longest was several years ago when we spent five months in the states recuperating from the wreck we had that fall. I have talked with my pastor and
other men of God that I respect and whose opinion I value. We have decided to take a six (6) month furlough starting the 15th of December. In the eight years
we have been here, we have never spent Christmas with our children and grand children. That is why we have chosen to leave on the 15th of December. Two
of our grand children graduate high school the first week in June so we have chosen the 15th of June to return to Guatemala. I will wait a few weeks and then
begin to call pastors of our supporting churches to maybe come by and give a personal update. It has been over 8 years and in some cases 10 years since we
have seen some of you face to face. Please pray about a meeting and if you would like we would be glad to make the trip to your church. I will start calling
pastors beginning the 24th of November. Don’t be afraid to say no. I understand the economic circumstances in the states right now. I am going to prepare a
short DVD of the work here and could mail it to you if you prefer that method for an update. We really would like to visit each church if possible.
Another family in Dolores had a young baby die last week for lack of medical/medicinal treatment. The ignorance and backwardness here is sometimes
astounding. We have become friends with Shalom Hospital just north of us. It is run by an American and they give very good medical treatment. Please pray for
that hospital. They have promised to help our people regardless of their financial condition. The need is really great. Please pray for Juan Carlos’ mother Rosa.
She is catholic and suffers from neglected diabetes. She went to a private clinic in Santa Elena and was told that she will be bedridden for the rest of her life.
She later went to Hospital Shalom and they changed her meds and she is doing fine. She is able to work and walk normally. She had a problem with two of her
toes and I thought she might lose them, but Shalom was able to treat them and they both are back to normal. Juan Carlos and Marlyn both are trying to be a
testimony to her. She has promised to visit our church soon. One can see that Shalom is becoming an important help to our ministry. Please pray for the
hospital and our relationship with them. They want to bring a bus type clinic to our mountain villages to offer exams for different health needs. The director
understands the spiritual need also. We can work with them.
I am confident that when we leave in December, the work will continue. They have been grounded well in the Word of God and understand that they are
following the Lord and not the ‘gringo’.
Starting the new work in Poptun is at a standstill right now. The lady who was going to be “the first to help” was only trying to enrich her pocket by selling us
land at about double the price. We looked for other places to rent and right now the door seems closed to that. We have decided to wait until we return in June
to try that area again.
There continues to be the prospect of churches in the mountains. We are still seeking the Lords guidance in that area. I am not confident in any leading in that
area right now. Perhaps when Bro. Tito grows more we may be able to send him into some villages to “circuit ride” a work. Please pray for that also. We are
willing to go anywhere as long as it is the Lord doing the leading. More prayer is needed in this area also.
Carlos and Teresa are married. Carlos has been coming for several weeks now. As long as he continues under the sound of the Word of God, The Lord will do
the work necessary to bring Carlos to Him. Please remember that family (Solis) in your intercessory prayer.
Thank you for reading this letter and thank you also for your continued support of our work here in the fields of Dolores, Petén, Guatemala. We need both your
prayers and financial support as we continue to be
Your servants for Jesus’ sake
