Greetings again from Guatemala, the top of Central America and the Center of God’s Will
Dear Friends:
It is with much thanksgiving that we greet you today. We have much to be thankful for and are glad to have this medium in which to do it. We are grateful for your many prayers and your desire to be a blessing to this ministry.
Several persons and churches have responded to our call for help with finishing our building. As of this moment money has come in to purchase the tin for the roof and to fill in the floor with rock and sand combination. Lord willing,
we will be able to have a meeting in the building sometime in March. Folks are growing weary of meeting on our carport.
We hope to have a dedication of “La Iglesia Bautista” (the Baptist Church) soon. I have been trying for months to come up with a name, to no success. Since we are the only Baptist work for miles, I thought the simple name “the
Baptist Church” would be enough. I recently received an invitation to a meeting from another church near here and it was addressed to “La Iglesia de Dios Bautista” – the Baptist Church of God – which I thought was a little
Pentecostal. So unless my mind gets changed, we will dedicate “the Baptist Church” in March.
We have not seen anyone saved in the last two months. We have sown a lot of seed and have watered it daily. One day the Lord will grant the increase. His word will accomplish what He sends it forth to do. We will wait for the
harvest season and continue to water and chop the “weeds” with the Sword of the Spirit as the need arises. False doctrine in this town is like wire grass in our hometown in Virginia. We may not kill it all, but it will know that we were
here if we leave! One of the “churches” has started having meetings at the same time in the evenings as ours. They use loudspeakers so a lot of the town can hear their “spirit filled” services. It is to say the least a thorn. The Lord
gave me a message last night from Acts 16 concerning the “divining” young girl troubling the Apostle Paul. The similarities to the woman pastor are many. I trust the Lord will allow me to preach it one night.
Barbara’s labors with the ladies and young girls continue with much success. Their Bible studies are right to the point and their craftwork afterwards is a beauty to behold. It is not unusual for one or two of the teens to be at our house
to get ‘help’ with their projects. I look for one day to see a fully fledged quilting party here!!
We are in the planning stages for a Bible School (like vacation Bible School). We hope to hold it in July if our planning can be accomplished. We are expecting several teens from the states in July. We want to incorporate their youth
and skill into an outreach for teens here. Since school classes are split half in the morning and half in the afternoon, we will split our Bible School into a ‘two a day’ school. We hope to finish that up with a cookout on the following
Saturday. Please pray for this proposed project that we will have the wisdom to put it all together. The curriculum will be written by one of our daughters in the states with illustrations by a multitalented friend there also. We have the
time to put it together if all goes well.
By the time you receive this letter, Bro. Richard Ciarrocca with be here with us to do some more literature distribution in the mountains. We had light rain last night, and it is raining now. We thought the rain would have stopped last
month, but for some reason, the rain has continued into the Guatemalan summer. It has not been hot here at all the past few months, but rather cool in the evenings and night. Global cooling seems to have arrived!!
This doesn’t seem like a very informative prayer letter, but I hope it has informed you of how we are progressing in the work and in our construction. Please visit our website for pictures and more insight into our work and progress.

Greetings again from the Morrow Duo in Guatemala – April 2009
The past two months have seen many trials and tests of the emotions. I have always been a man of many emotions, but before coming to Guatemala, I put my emotions aside because of the
emotional state of the Latino culture. They look at emotions as a form of “spirituality”. Sort of like if you are emotional in church you are spiritual. Solomon taught us in the proverbs that a man
that follows his emotions (heart) is a fool. Pretty strong words of warning are they not? But let me add that a heart in tune with the Word of God can express itself thru emotions and not
complicate “spiritual things”. Herein lies the danger. If in the Latino culture they see emotions from a man, they immediately think “spiritual”. Before you know it you have a people hooked on
emotions and not grounded in truth.
Our work here continues with much labor and hope. Bro. Richard Ciarrocca was with us in March. As usual he was a great help and blessing. We were able to get into the mountains again to
pass out the Gospel of John and other tracts. There is a village called San Marcos. This village has about 100 people living there. There was only a foot path into the place. On the day we
decided to go there, the municipality of Dolores was cutting a new road into San Marcos. We more or less followed the bulldozer in!!! Had it been muddy, we would not have been able to
enter. There was great success in passing out the Gospel and the literature was received by most everyone. The mother of a neighbor here in Dolores lives in San Marcos. This neighbor is “very
catholic”, however, the entire family received the Gospel of John from our hands. We never know what the Lord will do.
I could name you several people that are in the valley of decision about salvation. Marlyn Orellana is a special one. She has been under conviction several times and continues to come on
Sunday mornings. She is a delight to be around. She is also a perfect example of someone that believes the gospel but is not saved. How is that you ask? She knows that God loves her. She
knows that Jesus died for her. She believes that He can and will save her if she would but receive Him. And therein is that problem. She will not turn from self and cast herself on Him. She
wants to retain control of her life and not be under the authority of someone else. One day, Lord willing, she will surrender to Him that wants and is waiting to save her. You might say that she
can get saved by just asking Him and later let Him change her. With that thinking you have just abandoned repentance, of which the Lord said “except ye repent ye shall all likewise perish”.
Please pray for her.
We had a special four day meeting a couple weeks ago. Many came and heard the Word of God preached. Many asked for prayer already professing to be saved. Two people made professions
of faith as a result of visitation but we have yet to see any fruit, such as church attendance. They understood the need for repentance but to be honest, I’m not sure that it took place. Only the
Lord knows for sure. Sometimes we forget the Godly sorrow part and to expect to see it. I have to constantly remind myself that we are led to salvation. We are led to repentance. The Holy
Spirit must put the words in our heart and in our mouth (Rom. 10:8). That is the reason I do not try to have someone “pray after me this prayer”. My personal belief is that if the Spirit of God is
present in the work of “winning souls”, He will fulfill Romans 10:8 by putting the words in their heart (to believe) and in their mouth (to confess).
Jose Antonio, our song leader, has been thru several difficult trials. He missed some services because of “needed projects” required by his “college”. It was difficult, but he learned that God will
not bless anything done out of the will of God. He told me that his last project “fell flat”. He was so glad to have learned that lesson. Hopefully he will graduate in November with really high
marks. We are hoping that the Lord will continue to “train” him for something in His will and work.
We have just been told that there three cases of swine flu here in El Petén. We are not sure what this means, but whether we are here or in the States, the Lord orders our steps. I gave up trusting
myself a long time ago. Trusting the Lord to order our steps is so much easier. Whether it be health or sickness, the Lord does not fail or make mistakes. This brings us to the latest development
in our lives. Last week around bedtime, my wife experienced a rapid heart rate and some pressure in her chest. The next morning we came to hospital Shalom in San Benito. An EKG was
done and some blood work sent to Guatemala City by overnight express. At ten the next morning we had the results. I sent the EKG by email to our doctor in the states. With the blood work and
the EKG, it was confirmed that she had had a mild heart attack. Looking back we could see that she seemed more fatigued and tired with some shortness of breath. Our doctor in the states
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that we fly to the states “soon” for a stress test. Thanks to a donation thru ANTBM we were able to purchase our tickets to fly on the early morning of the 30th.
Depending on the results of the tests there in the U.S. Brother Ciarrocca and I will return to Guatemala on the 3rd of June for a week to check on the work and visit the mountain villages again.
We already had a planned trip to the states for our oldest granddaughter’s graduation. Lord willing we will return to the work on the 9th of July to finish preparations for our “vacation Bible
school”. We are looking forward to the 4 teens returning with us to see the mission field “first hand” and be a part of the Lord’s work. All of us are very excited for this experience.
I am typing this letter while we wait in hospital Shalom. Little Evelin is to have the little “foot” removed from the left side of her lower torso where her left leg should have been. She was born
with only one leg and foot. The small foot is present but no leg. Doctors here and in the states believe that if the “foot” is removed she can be fitted with prosthesis so she can walk. She has
been using crutches for more than a year. She was slow in starting to use them, but now she has learned to play soccer using the crutches. Today is her birthday. You might think that bad to
have to have surgery on your birthday but if you knew Evelin you would realize that this is just another challenge she can overcome. Last year while being checked out for the prosthesis, she was
shown an artificial foot. After the exam, she said “I’m going to leave this hospital with a new foot one day. Usually you don’t find that much courage in one so young (7 years). What a blessing
she is. We know things are tight all over the world. I do not bring this up to beg, but if you have a couple extra dollars and are interested in laying up some treasure in heaven would you
consider sending it to ANTBM in Elkton, Maryland memoing it for Evelin Mirasol Hernandez. Laying up treasure still is a good investment.
Last but not least, we had our first meeting yesterday in our new church building. The floor in the main auditorium was poured on Friday. Our first convert when we moved here over 4 years ago
is named Lydia Yolanda Perez. She was living with a man for 8 years when she got saved. After her salvation, she asked about baptism. I had to tell her that she needed to be married or
separate from the man in order to follow the Lord. She has been working on that fellow for over three years. I must back up and say that the Lord has been working on him. A couple of years
ago, he called Lydia from his work place in the capital and told her to take their three children to “don Pablo’s” church. Late last year Lydia came to Barbara and said that Gabriel has agreed to
marry. Finally last Saturday we had their wedding. It was their first wedding and mine also. It would be a close race to see who was more scared, Gabriel or me. I went over the ceremony with
him and told him of the questions I would be asking. He got all nervous and said “I can’t do that.” I assured him that he could. Lastly I told him I would close the ceremony by saying “you may
kiss the bride”. They have been living together for 12 years and have 3 children. Can you imagine his fright of kissing his “bride” in front of everyone? Well to make a long story short, he
nervously gave her a little peck on the cheek!!!

Evelin Mirasol Hernández Gonzáles our first wedding and first use of our new building!!

Evelin Mirasol Hernández Gonzáles our first wedding and first use of our new building!!
Morrow duo news from Guatemala, Central America
Our purpose as stated in several places in the Scriptures is at the least four fold: 1) Thou shalt love The Lord, 2) Him only shalt thou serve, 3) ye shall be witnesses unto me, and 4) wait for
His Son from heaven. Love is our mode of service. Witnessing is our method of service. Waiting for Him is our patience of service. Loving Him makes us bolder. Witnessing of Him makes
us stronger. Waiting for Him makes our hope more blessed. Without love we become unfruitful in our service and without service we become impatient in our waiting. But in it all “I can do
all things thru Christ which strengtheneth me”.
The race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong. We have realized that we are not “swift” anymore, and along about the middle of the hot afternoon we find that we are not very
strong anymore!! Though our outward man perishes, our inward man is renewed day by day. Thus our continued emphasis has been and will be the preaching and teaching of the whole
counsel of God. Thank you for suffering me a little with the above.
We continue to be encouraged to see the Lord work in us and amongst us. The Lord is working mightily in Juan Carlos’ heart and mind (The owner of our house). He now realizes that it is
God that is speaking to him thru past events in his life and he came to me yesterday much troubled. He went home to talk to Marlyn about getting married soon and finally getting saved.
Please pray for these two. They are so very close. Several young people have had the Lord speak to their hearts about personal conduct and they have returned to the counsel of the Word
of God for their guidance. Aura is 14 and not saved but is very actively reading her Bible as she watches her older sister Magali respond to our preaching and the personal counsel by my
wife. Aura sees the Lord giving Magali victory in her personal conduct and continues to seek the Lord thru His word. Rene and Rosa (who are not saved) continue to come on Wednesday
nights. I see them following along in their new bibles and watch as they re-read a particular phrase that caught their attention. The Lord is so merciful to us all as he shows Himself in our
midst.
Early on in our ministry here I asked the Lord about our living conditions. Our house does not have ceilings and the cheap tin gives us a fit when it rains. As always, the Lord encouraged
me to follow Him with this scripture: Pr 24:27 “Prepare thy work without, and make it fit for thyself in the field; and afterwards build thine house”. We are able to say that the work without has
been prepared and is fit. The church building is complete and the “church” is growing in the Lord. We have turned some of our attention to repairing our living quarters. We are in the
process of replacing the entire roof, adding ceilings and doors to the rooms and finally building a small office for our mission that will give me a more private place to study and pray.
Photos of the office and some of the construction can be found on the second page. As some of you know our lumber comes directly from the forest, cut by chainsaw. The boards are then
dried in the sun for about 20 days. We then take them to the carpenters shop to have them planed down to size and “joined” to straighten. This process takes over a month. As you can see
it will take us several months just to complete all this. Please pray for us as we make decisions in each phase of this much needed task.
Our health has “leveled” out somewhat and we are enjoying a little rest from the ups and downs. Erica, Barbara’s sister, has rebounded slightly and is holding her own with the illness that is
sure to take her life. We are able to speak to her at least once a week. Please pray for wisdom as the Lord opens the right door to ask the right questions. It is so difficult to talk to a catholic
about the gospel and doubly hard to talk to family that has always been catholic.
We are always grateful for your continued prayer and financial support in these hard economic times. I assure you that it does not go unnoticed at the Throne of Grace. We do ask that you
would continue to pray for wisdom in this work.

Our purpose as stated in several places in the Scriptures is at the least four fold: 1) Thou shalt love The Lord, 2) Him only shalt thou serve, 3) ye shall be witnesses unto me, and 4) wait for
His Son from heaven. Love is our mode of service. Witnessing is our method of service. Waiting for Him is our patience of service. Loving Him makes us bolder. Witnessing of Him makes
us stronger. Waiting for Him makes our hope more blessed. Without love we become unfruitful in our service and without service we become impatient in our waiting. But in it all “I can do
all things thru Christ which strengtheneth me”.
The race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong. We have realized that we are not “swift” anymore, and along about the middle of the hot afternoon we find that we are not very
strong anymore!! Though our outward man perishes, our inward man is renewed day by day. Thus our continued emphasis has been and will be the preaching and teaching of the whole
counsel of God. Thank you for suffering me a little with the above.
We continue to be encouraged to see the Lord work in us and amongst us. The Lord is working mightily in Juan Carlos’ heart and mind (The owner of our house). He now realizes that it is
God that is speaking to him thru past events in his life and he came to me yesterday much troubled. He went home to talk to Marlyn about getting married soon and finally getting saved.
Please pray for these two. They are so very close. Several young people have had the Lord speak to their hearts about personal conduct and they have returned to the counsel of the Word
of God for their guidance. Aura is 14 and not saved but is very actively reading her Bible as she watches her older sister Magali respond to our preaching and the personal counsel by my
wife. Aura sees the Lord giving Magali victory in her personal conduct and continues to seek the Lord thru His word. Rene and Rosa (who are not saved) continue to come on Wednesday
nights. I see them following along in their new bibles and watch as they re-read a particular phrase that caught their attention. The Lord is so merciful to us all as he shows Himself in our
midst.
Early on in our ministry here I asked the Lord about our living conditions. Our house does not have ceilings and the cheap tin gives us a fit when it rains. As always, the Lord encouraged
me to follow Him with this scripture: Pr 24:27 “Prepare thy work without, and make it fit for thyself in the field; and afterwards build thine house”. We are able to say that the work without has
been prepared and is fit. The church building is complete and the “church” is growing in the Lord. We have turned some of our attention to repairing our living quarters. We are in the
process of replacing the entire roof, adding ceilings and doors to the rooms and finally building a small office for our mission that will give me a more private place to study and pray.
Photos of the office and some of the construction can be found on the second page. As some of you know our lumber comes directly from the forest, cut by chainsaw. The boards are then
dried in the sun for about 20 days. We then take them to the carpenters shop to have them planed down to size and “joined” to straighten. This process takes over a month. As you can see
it will take us several months just to complete all this. Please pray for us as we make decisions in each phase of this much needed task.
Our health has “leveled” out somewhat and we are enjoying a little rest from the ups and downs. Erica, Barbara’s sister, has rebounded slightly and is holding her own with the illness that is
sure to take her life. We are able to speak to her at least once a week. Please pray for wisdom as the Lord opens the right door to ask the right questions. It is so difficult to talk to a catholic
about the gospel and doubly hard to talk to family that has always been catholic.
We are always grateful for your continued prayer and financial support in these hard economic times. I assure you that it does not go unnoticed at the Throne of Grace. We do ask that you
would continue to pray for wisdom in this work.
